Two, I was corrected regarding IABC's involvement with the social media release. I stated that they had been working two years on developing a standard for a social media release. I got my wires crossed (no pun intended) from reading a post by Tom Foremski from two years ago calling for the end of the press release. That led to a link to IABC's efforts, and hence I mis-represented both the project and the timing. As a card-carrying member of IABC, my apologies to that fine organization.

Another look: Social Media Release
Well, I've had a few good comments related to my post on Social Media Release. Let me clarify a couple of things: One, while I admit I'm not 100% convinced of the need for a separate social media release (why not just embed multimedia content and the like into a traditional release?), I credit a former colleague for pointing me to some examples that were impressive. Maybe I was short sighted on this one, or maybe we just have too many releases. Or, perhaps the answer is that ALL press releases should be in the social media release format and forget all the rest. Better yet, let's just bypass the wire services and post the documents to our website and syndicate the content (No doubt I'll get a comment from the big two wire services now).
