A few updates: One, I haven't started a new language with WITWIC. Two, I haven't died. WITWAC stands for Where in the World is Corey, a take on my company's time and expense system called Where in the World are You, or WITWAY.
It's been a month since my last post, but not due to lack of interest or things to blog about. It's been an issue of time. The past month has been, how should I say it, less than normal.
June started with needing to remodel our master bathroom (water damage required immediate attention). That ended on a Friday. But why stop there? Get the kitchen done, too. So, we had the same contractor start that the next Monday. That was June 9. A week and a half later, my wife had to go in for shoulder surgery. She went in expecting a rather minor surgery to repair some damage that has made it difficult for several years to do certain motions, like swing a tennis racket or throw a Frisbee. But she left surgery with the doctor repairing a significant tear that requires four weeks in a sling and several months of physical therapy.
For four weeks, she can't drive, lift anything, use her arm in any way. To top it off, the surgery is on her right side, and she's right handed.
Before she knew she was going to need surgery, my wife signed up my oldest daughter and herself up for a summer-long class to learn an old form of making lace. So I drive to Fremont every Wed. night and bring my computer, log onto someone's Wifi and try and get work done.
Meanwhile, I'm still having a challenge hiring an analyst relations manager and a thought leadership marketing manager. Plus, we're in the midst of our FY09 planning and budget process. And it's an all new process for me.
As a result, I've been Mr. Mom, Daddy and Director of Global Comms. Thank God my mother-in-law lives nearby. She has been a lifesaver, coming over almost every day to manage the kids while I work. My mom came up from LA for five days, which was also a big help. And, we've had several families from our church bring meals, which has been tremendous.
Now you know why I haven't had any mental or physical energy to blog.
I can't guarantee many blog posts in the coming weeks, but we'll see what happens after my wife's sling comes up.
As for our kitchen, we hope the contractor finishes Monday. Then, we hope to hire a painter to pain the cabinets and the house should be done ... at least for a while.
Happy Summering.
